Two Essential Accessories For Notebook Computers

A Good Notebook Bag

notebook bag

Forget those that are bundled with your notebook computer. Get
yourself a good notebook bag that is well-padded both on its
load-bearing straps, and 100% around the notebook itself.

Aren’t all notebook bags built the same?
The answer is NO. There are countless bag types and variations.
Not all of them have your comfort and protection of the notebook
itself in mind. Most of them sacrifice style for substance, which
is worse than not having a notebook bag in the first place.

The best way to determine which notebook bag is the one for you
is to bring along your notebook while shopping. Put it in the bag
and ensure that it doesn’t slip and slide around. Generous
spaces do not mean better protection! You want it to be snug.

Carry the bag with your notebook in it. Simulate a light
jog. Why? Experience tells me that’s how you’ll most
likely travel through the gates of airport hell. If the straps
start digging in those shoulders, start looking for alternatives.
A good strap should cushion those shocks as the bag bounces off
your shoulders while doing your airport jog.

Note also how the notebook bag opens up for main access. Again,
if you’re a frequent traveler you’ll want to have one that’s easy
to retrieve and store your notebook for security checkpoint
purposes. The best are usually top-loading ones secured by either
a zipper or a flap. We recommend the flap versions because they
usually have an additional layer of cushioning right around the
top for the notebook, and secure well but open fast with magnetic
snaps/buttons.

The zipper types have none, and your poor notebook will get
whacked full-force if the bag topples head-long off an airport
luggage cart. Trust me on this bit: I’ve had enough times my
notebook took a tumble that way, and seen many other helpless
souls literally spill their notebook’s guts across airport gates.

A good alternative to those shoulder-loading bags are the rolling
pilot cases. They are typically bigger than any shoulder-bearing
bags including backpacks, but offer solid protection with a
padded hinge-top opening similar to actual pilot cases. Roller
bags are also less taxing physically, and the generous
compartments in the bag means less luggage pieces to carry while
traveling.

A Heat Dissipating Cooler Or Pad

 notebook cooler

Heat is the number one notebook computer killer. Today’s
notebooks are little thermal generators, with internal
temperatures that rise up to 150 degrees even with built-in
cooling fans.

Those internal fans and heat-dissipating systems work full time
more often than you think. That’s why they are usually the first
components in a notebook to die on you. When that happens, you’d
better not fire up that notebook, as it’ll fry even before you
see the start screen.

So help out your hardest working notebook component and extend
its lifespan. Invest in a notebook cooler or a cooling pad.
Notebook coolers typically are low-rise, plastic or metal-faced
pedestals on which your notebook sits. They are equipped with a
fan or two inside, which serves to draw hot air away from under
your notebook, and thus promote a cooler operating environment.
Usually efficient enough to drop up to 15 degrees the operating
temperature, notebook coolers however require power for its fans
and would typically draw its power off your notebook’s USB ports.
This could somewhat decrease your notebook’s battery operating
time, but so far have proven to be negligible for many users.

Cooling pads normally do not have the fans, and are constructed
from some type of heat-dissipating material or designed a way
that your notebook would have extra clearance at the bottom to
promote natural air circulation. Despite the lack of fans, these
cooling pads do a surprisingly good job of cooling your notebook.
They are also much easier to carry with your notebook because
they are slimmer, lighter, and do not require power to do its job
therefore highly recommended.

The Benefits Of Buying A Notebook Online

notebookNotebooks are as accessible as they are useful, and the range available can make buying a product time consuming and complicated. Of course, before buying any laptop a consumer should be aware of the quality and advantages of the investment. For this reason, many devices are bought from high street retailers, where assistants can provide advice and provide demonstrations. Although it can be useful to be able to walk into a shop and view the product, there is a shift in the way that notebooks are being purchased. This is because buying online provides all the usual benefits, but there are also many further advantages to be gained.

The first advantage is that there is a better range available. When you buy from a high street retailer you are reliant upon the notebook range that they have in stock at that time. These retailers will only purchase a limited number of certain products as they need to be certain that there is demand. Online product retailers can be more responsive to their customers needs, and so provide a wider range and in bigger numbers using a supply and demand approach. The site will often provide information and reviews on its products also. The range is not limited only to what is currently on offer either; online notebook retailers now offer bespoke services where you can create a notebook that contains all the components that are specifically important to you. High street retailers do not have the demand or the capacity to be able to provide this service, unless it is of considerable size and a specialist provider.

Often, the information you receive about your notebook is clearer and more honest online. Technology improvements are fast and furious, and as soon as a model is released it immediately becomes dated. High street electronic retailers need to be able to sell their older model notebooks before they become too old to sell. Furthermore, the advice given is the opinion of that particular person only, and part of their wage may be based on commission from sales. Online reviews have the benefit of being from a variety of audiences. If you do not want to know the site reviews, there are many independent notebook review sites that can utilized to help you make an informed decision. Another major benefit is that the notebook reviews can be browsed, whilst looking at the desired potential purchase.

When purchased online, the notebook can also be purchased from anywhere in the world. This means that anyone can have access to the latest and most advanced notebook and accessories, regardless of where they reside. Make sure that import taxation is taken into consideration in this scenario when pricing the cost. Another advantage is that the laptop can be delivered to you, making this a convenient option. The notebook will be carefully packaged and guaranteed to arrive in optimum condition. Delivery options can often include free shipping, depending upon where you live. The online laptop retail site will display their regulations regarding this clearly.

The usual advantages of special offers when buying a notebook from a high street retailer can be gained when making a purchase online. Many notepad retail sites have the same buy now pay later options available, with clear contracts and terms and conditions. However, it is worth noting that online notebook retailers have fewer overheads such as rental space and cost of equipment. This means that they can often offer better special offers available than those in the shops. These can range from free notebook accessories, reduced cost of further payments, free shipping, and price reduction. The provision and support is excellent, and so buying a notebook online may be an excellent investment opportunity.

Cleaning a Desktop Computer Fan

cooling fanWith many business and home computers, especially desktop computers, the cooling fan can get clogged up and cause some real problems for the rest of the computer. The fan keeps the computer cool and stops the desktop or laptop computer from overheating. Below are just a few tips to ensure you home computer doesn’t suffer from overheating:

-Unplug your computer and move it to a place that is safe and that has plenty of room to work. Start by using either a mini-vacuum or a specific computer vacuum cleaner to remove the dust from the air vents and the CD player. You can then remove the back part of the case and vacuum inside, making sure that you avoid small components.

-Spraying compressed air is a great way of loosening and dispersing the dust on the fan and power supply fan. It can also be used to remove dust from the grills and a pencil can be used to keep fan blades still before spraying compressed air.

-Make sure the laptop or desktop computer is in a cool area of the house or office and not directly in the sun. Restricting the air flow to the fan by having objects covering the fan will make the computer overheat and make the fan work harder.

-Vacuuming and dusting the room that you computer lives can help ensure less dust get caught in the fan. This is especially true of destop computers that sit on the floor underneath a desk.

-Once you have fully cleaned out the fan inside the computer, make sure that the dust, hair and crumbs have been cleaned off of the leads and devices leading up to the computer. This is usually overlooked but the leads and other hardware can carry with it a lot of dust and dirt.

Over time the fan can eventually die from overuse but hopefully these simple tips can be used regularly to prolong the life of the fan and the personal computer.

How To Add Years to the Life of Your Computer

If you want to get on with your PC then you should backup and protect your hard disk.

computer hard driveAlthough, it may not be the most expensive hardware to replace, the hard drive may be the most important part of your computer! We all have things stored there that would be hard or impossible to replace if the hard drive fails or becomes corrupt.

While you may not be able to just run out and get a new computer if your motherboard crashed, you could eventually replace the computer. But, those business files or family pictures could literally be irreplaceable!

Getting in the habit of doing a regular backup of all of your business and personal files could be one of the most important things that you could do. Whether it’s brand new or several years old, things can happen and hardware can fail!

You can do scheduled backups of your total system that can be used if the hard drive just becomes corrupt. But, personal or business files should be backed up to CD’s on a regular basis.

Another way to extend the life of your harddrive is by running defrag on a regular basis. The hard drive head has to work harder when files are split and scattered, defragging rejoins these files and puts less strain on the hard drive.

A surge protector can be the lifeline for a computer during power surges or outages. All electrical strips are not surge protectors, make sure that the electrical strip your purchase specifically says that it provides surge protection.

While electrical surges or drops normally don’t affect household appliances, it can destroy computer components. Anytime there is a power outage you should wait at least five minutes before restarting your computer. Within the first few minutes after power is restored, it’s usually not at full wattage and you could experience problems.

Both moisture and temperature can have devastating effects on your computer. The recommended room temperature for most computers should be between 60 to 85 degrees and the humidity should range from 50 to 75 percent.

Make sure that your computer has an adequate supply of air. The air flow as well as the fans work to keep your mother board and other hardware from overheating. Replace any faulty fans as soon as possible, even a fan that is just not working properly won’t supply enough cool air.

The vents on the sides of your CPU unit allow the proper amount of air to flow through the unit. Never have your CPU setting flush against a wall or your computer desk. There should be at least three or four inches of open space on each side of your tower.

The dust, hair and other particles sucked in by the computers fan can be a common reason for hardware failure. These particles adhere to the hardware and produce friction causing it to overheat.

Regularly clean and vacuum the area around your desk to decrease the amount of particles that are drawn in by the fan. At least once a year remove the cover on your CPU and clean the inside with a can of compressed air. Never stick anything inside your computer such as a vacuum hose, no matter how careful you are it only takes one slip to short out your entire system.

Sometimes things happen that we just can’t prevent and entire computer systems go down. But, by caring for your system properly you may be able to add years to it’s life!

8) Avoiding shocks – If you are looking to move your laptop around a bit you should always ensure that it is on a sturdy surface that will protect it from unexpectedly jostling around. If the laptop is well protected you can safely move it around, however if the laptop is not stable you should turn it off before moving it around.

9) Humidity is not your friend – regardless of the reason for the humidity, you should do your best to protect your laptop from humidity. This can cause damage to the motherboard as well as possible damage to the screen.

10) Dust is the enemy of your computer – You should always make sure that your laptop is kept away from dust; this can clog fans and even vents which will cause your laptop to heat up significantly. To help protect the laptop it is important to look for a way to protect your computer such as keeping it on a table or a desk.

Bonus) Off the floor – There is never any reason to leave your laptop on the floor even for a brief moment. While it might seem like a good place for only a moment it can create problems if you have a pet that decides to use the computer as a chew toy, or if someone accidentally steps on the laptop.

Bonus) Surge protectors are critical – This can allow you to adequately protect your computer in the event that a power surge occurs, which could damage your computer.

Bonus) Protect the screen – If you are in the habit of storing papers between the screen of your laptop and the keyboard it is possible to scratch the screen from the paper. This can create an extremely large repair bill that you would be left with. Avoid this as much as possible to ensure that your screen is protected.

Learning how to properly care for your laptop is really quick and easy, but will certainly allow your laptop to last much longer. As long as you are willing to take some basic precautions for your laptop, you are going to enjoy a lot of usage.

The World On The Lap Is The Laptop Notebook

Get to know the good and bad points about Laptops. Also learn how they are assembled so that they will not overheat.

laptop notebook computer

The laptop notebook computer is a mobile computer that is small enough to be carted and kept on the lap while working. It does not weigh more than 1 to 6 kg. It is much smaller than its elder sibling – the desktop computer. A laptop does the same functions as the desktop one and therefore the parts are the same but of mini size. Instead of a mouse a touchpad does the tracking but if required a mouse can be attached. Internet tablets are used for the vital interspace link.

The laptops have both good and bad points. Due to technical and economic hurdles the unit cannot be upgraded easily. Regarding health matters the laptop is blamed for low sperm count as it is kept continuously on the scrotum that causes the heat to rise to undesirable levels in this region of the body. To avoid it the mobile unit can be kept on the desk and does not necessarily have to be kept on the lap all the time.

Another obvious problem is that laptops can easily be stolen. Laptops are relatively slow and have less sound and graphics capability. Laptops are much more costly than desktops but of late the gap is closing. However Laptops consume less power. The performance is more or less the same as the desktop models and new generation models are becoming more efficient and user friendly.

How can such a small package hold such varied capabilities?

Laptops and desktops run on the same principles but the difference is how the components are fitted and fixed. In a desktop there are motherboard, video card, hard drive etc. The monitor, keyboard and other incidental items are connected without wires or with cables but there is sufficient space for extra cards, cables while allowing for flow of air. In a laptop the screen and keyboard rests on the side of the box. The design of the laptop is small and flat wherein all the pieces fit in snugly. Thus the space is compact allowing for conservation of power and less production of heat.

The CPU is the brain of the computer and a fan and heat sink system with plates and channels are required to cool it. But a laptop runs on a lower voltage resulting in less speed. Instead of pins and socket as in a desktop, in a laptop balls are used. However it means that the processor cannot be removed separately. The batteries of laptops that run fast suffer from being frequently run down. The Apple G4 processor tries to neutralize this defect.

Laptops use mini sized fans, heat spreaders and heat sinks. Some use liquid coolants to keep down the temperature. The CPU`s of the laptops are placed near the edge of the box allowing for hot air to be released without flowing over other components. A laptop also has a hard disk drive wherein is stored the operating system, data and application files.

The mechanism of memory differs from one laptop model to another. Usually smaller memory modules are used to economize on space. Both run on electricity but a laptop can also function on batteries.

Every invention begins with a dream. In 1970 Alan Kay of Xerox had such a vision of a portable computer approximately the size of a notebook. He never went much ahead with the idea but set the balls rolling. In 1979 the first working portable computer was made by William Moggridge of Grid Systems. Others like Apple soon jumped in to complete the success story.

I Think My Computer is Overheating – What Do I Do?

overheating laptopOverheating can be a real problem to your personal computer. Laptops are overheated more often because they have rechargeable batteries that can get real hot after some time. You should just unplug your laptop when not using it to avoid overheating. There are some programs that alert you when the system temperature is too high.

Overheating is a constant problem with computers. There are a lot of people that think that their system is down because of some computer virus or some dangerous software but it is overheating that is usually the problem. The symptoms of overheating can be shutting down of the computer, computer restarting on its own, etc.

There are a few problems that can cause overheating. One of the coolers may not work and it causes the temperature to go high.

The computer can have up to three coolers, the power supply cooler, graphic card cooler and central processing unit or CPU. You can easily check if the power supply cooler is working, just look in the upper computer tower part located at the back of the tower and see if the fans are spinning. Other two coolers are located in the computer tower itself and you can check if those are spinning. If one of those is not spinning you might need to replace that part of the computer or repair it.

Dust can be a problem too. It is gathered on coolers and it may slow them down so they can’t cool the system enough to work properly. You can clean your coolers from time to time to prevent this from happening.

One other problem is smoke. If a computer is exposed to cigarette smoke, overheating can be a problem again. It’s because cigarette smoke has tar in it, and tar gathers around coolers making them work slower so they again can’t cool the system enough. When the temperature inside the computer rises above a normal and safe temperature, the computer will shut down as a precaution. In your BIOS you can choose at what temperature your system will shut down and you can choose to activate a temperature warning sound too.

A computer can have cd burner fans, PCI slot fans and hard disk fans too. These are just a bonus and these kinds of hardware have them implemented sometimes.

When one of your fans is not working properly, your computer tower may be a bit noisy. That’s because dust or tar gathered on some of the coolers and it’s making them noisier. You should clean it on time because that cooler may get even more dust or tar on it, and it can stop working.

There are many types of coolers and their strength varies. If your personal computer has some strong components like for example a great graphic card, it can easily overheat, so you need a good cooling system. One other thing to watch for is the power supply. When you have good and strong coolers, you must have a high voltage power supply to support these coolers and the other components.

Laptops – How Hot is Too Hot?

How hot is too hot is a good question any laptop owner would like to hear the answer to. Basically, any machine that does work produces energy in many different forms, heat being one of them. When laptop computers function normally they also generate heat. As customers are demanding for faster and faster processors, engineers are pushed to produce faster and smaller components.

The problem is that when these small fast components are cramped into a tight compartment such as a laptop they generate a lot of heat which is not completely dissipated. However, the components of the laptop, the hard drive and the rest of the CPU are already manufactured to withstand these high temperatures. Most laptop computers without any functional issues can function optimally at temperatures up to 140 F (40 C). Different laptops have different processors and other components, but most can effectively function at temperatures ranging from 122 C to 140 C and can be pushed up to 74 degrees centigrade without impaired functions.

If your laptop is not overworked and the hard drive is not overloaded, the over heating problem could be due to the laptop not ventilating optimally. There are several problems that could cause this and they include obstruction of the air vents by the side of the laptop by books or pillows when using the laptop on the bed or it could be due to dust, animal hair or lint which gradually built over time and clogged the air vents. Simply blowing out this dirt with a dust blower should be able to reduce the heat by up to 5 degree centigrade or more.

However, even though the laptop could still work at these high temperatures without impaired functions, it might be a good idea to invest in a lap pad to protect yourself from skin burns and possibly fertility problems with prolonged use on your lap for a guy. A good cooling platform should allow you work with the laptop on your lap and also prevents the issue of the vents been blocked by pillows or what have you, when in use.

Crazy From the Heat – Keeping Computers Cool

computer's components A computer’s components produce large amounts of heat during a PC’s normal operation. CPU’s, integrated circuits, graphics cards, hard drives and power supplies all generate heat through normal day-to-day working. This heat has to be dissipated to keep the computer’s components operating within their ideal operating temperature.

Overheating can have catastrophic effects on a computers lifespan. S computer that runs too hot will have a shorter maximum lifespan and be more susceptible to system failures. CPU’s can even permanently expire if they run too hot.

Excessive heat build-up can be caused by numerous factors (including the weather) and some computers struggle to remain cool due to their working environments. Computers having to run in warm areas or near to heat sources (like ovens and radiators) will often expire long before they ought to but there are several methods of keeping a computer running at an optimum temperature.

Heat sinks are the simplest method of supplying cooling to a computer’s internal parts. Heat sinking is merely attaching large pieces of metal, which is usually finned, to increase the surface area and dissipate heat.

Fans are also very common. A fan will allow air to flow through a computer taking warm air away from the components and replacing it with cooler air. Positioning of these fans or adding extra ones can make massive differences to their effectiveness. It is also important that these fans are working correctly and free from dust.

Dust will heat a computer up in several; acting as an insulator, causing excessive heat, and also blocking filters and vents. Regular cleaning or protecting a computer from dust is an easy method of reducing running temperature.

Another method of keeping a computer cool is known as soft cooling which is essentially turning down a computers components and power saving functions to decrease power consumption and therefore heat generation.

Many hardcore computer gamers use liquid cooling which uses cold fluids in pipes to dispel heat. However, liquid cooling can be expensive and difficult to maintain and there is also the possibility of springing a leak causing permanent damage to a machine.

There is however another solution to computer cooling and one that is often missed by so-called computer experts when advising on keeping systems cool and that is the use of an industrial computer enclosures.

These enclosures cost as little as a few hundred Pounds/Dollars/Euros but have the advantage in sealing a computer in a dust free environment. They have several methods of extra cooling including extra fans, plenum chambers (vents that use differing pressures to suck air around a system) and heat sinking.

These enclosures have the advantage of other methods of cooling as they not only cool a computer but also keeps out dust and also protects from knocks and bangs. They are also suitable for computes that have to operate in really tough conditions making them a genuine and less expensive alternative to specialised sold state or industrial machines.

They are also useful for computer users who often find heat build-up a problem whether that is because of excessive dust, a heated environment (such as near a radiator) or even hot weather.

A Laptop Cooler Investment – Why You Need It

laptop coolerInvest some of your money on a laptop cooler. Trust me you will never regret it.

This is one of the aspects that most users neglect. How come?

Firstly, most users have already forked out a substantial amount of money in acquiring a laptop themselves and coming out money for laptop accessories might not be the first thing on their mind.

These days laptops are already built with sophisticated designs and a must powerful hardware specification. But all these will come at a price. Similar to all electronic products out there, laptops also disseminate a high of heat.

Unlike desktops where modification can be done easily and air cooling is easier to manage, most laptops will have their fans (to cool of their processors – be it Intel or AMD) on the bottom or base part the laptop. What users never realized is that when they place their laptops flat on the table, very little air is absorb to cool the processors and hence sometimes in certain situation it might suddenly turn off your laptop automatically as the processors get too hot.

Not only that these heat, over a period of time (without the proper ventilation), can damage certain components or chips of the laptop’s main board or the memory cards pcb. Not only that hard disk can easily be damaged due to overheating.

Nowadays laptop coolers are quite cheap in the market. I recommend those with a 3 fan base type laptop cooler with an aluminum base. But before you actually buy a laptop cooler, check the base of your laptop first. It is important to know where actually the location of the fan’s processor is. You will notice it by the narrow exposed areas at the base of your laptop. Once you take note of it, then you make the purchase. If you are still uncertain, then bring your laptop with you when making the purchase of your laptop cooler.

One other advantage that you can find in a laptop cooler is the ability to elevate its height and it will not cause a strain in your neck. We know by working long hours on a laptop and at a posture that you neck is feeling downward can have some painful effects on the back part of your neck. At least, you do not have the strain while typing your documents or simply surfing the net.

Thus you have seen above, that not only the laptop cooler reap benefits for the laptop but to the human as well.
