Computer Cooling System – Cooling the System Off

Computer cooling is a process of removing excess heat from the heated parts of the system. Many parts of the computer system produce enormous amount of heat like Integrated Circuits like CPU, chip sets and graphic cards besides the hard drives. There is a need to remove this heat so as the components can keep on working smoothly well within their temperature range of safe work operation. This is done mainly with the help of heat syncs which increase the surface area which dissipates heat, fans to speed up the air exchange between the heated one and the cooler ambient one.

With the advent of the increased heat developed by such electronic components, modern computer systems need proper ventilation system to get eased off from the heated air. A failure to provide adequate ventilation through a modern computer system may increase the chances damage to hard disk or other important components due to overheating. It may also result in damage to the electronics and/or peripheral units.

Heat dissipation in a computer system that typically includes a central processing unit (CPU) is always a significant concern. This is due to the fact that heat is mainly generated during its operation only. Due to this heat generation process from this CPU, the temperature of whole system be it its interior or exterior rises. Because of this, the operation of the CPU may get affected and the operation of other circuits of the personal computer may sometimes become unstable.

The temperature rise in the system may lead to problems in the system. A computer system cooling is typically used to remove thus generated heat from a computer system. There are various known techniques, such as thermal conduction or air-cooling, or the use of a heat pipe, or liquid cooling brought in use to cool off the semi conductor devices of the computer.

Generally, a heat sink with the CPU of a laptop computer is employed to increase the heat-dissipating of its surface area for more effective cooling. Heat sinks are often attached to heat generating electronic components, such as microprocessors. Computer cooling systems have great worth as they silently ensure the smooth functioning of all the parts of the computer system.

4 Ultimate Tips on Increasing Laptop Battery Life

Battery life is one of the most important aspects people look at when buying laptop computers. The longer the battery lasts, the more work you can get done away from a power source. Therefore, it is important to take steps to reduce power consumption, and increase the overall life span of the battery.

1.Switch-off Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth when you don’t use it.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drain your battery power fast. When you are not connecting to a wireless network and any bluetooth device, try to switch off both to save your battery power.

2.Draw less power when using your laptop.

The more applications you run on your laptop, and the higher your power settings, the more the battery will drain during use. Running fewer programs at one time, and changing power settings, such as reducing the brightness of the display, will extend battery life. Running graphically intensive programs like games is especially hard on batteries, since graphics cards draw large amounts of power, and generate a lot of heat.

3.Do Away with unused peripherals.

Computer peripherals such as mice, external hard disk drives and external optical drives need electricity to run. When you are done using these equipments, unplug them from the system so they will no longer drain battery power. Laptops have a touchpad so you can actually work without a mouse.

4.Avoid extreme temperatures.

Laptop batteries are designed to function properly within a set range of temperature. Avoid using or charging your laptop in hot or cold conditions. Likewise, laptops normally run more efficiently when it is cooler. Try to keep the internal temperature down by keeping the fan free and clear for proper ventilation.

Laptop Review – Dell Vostro 1320

Similar to other Dell laptops, the Dell Vostro 1320 is flexible and easily customizable. The potential buyer has several configuration options and a whole range of specifications to choose from.

The Dell Vostro 1320 may be considered bland on the style department. It will absolutely fail to stand out in a sea of black box-type laptops. It is glossy, which is the most that we can say about the design. Regardless, it shouldn’t turn off any buyer from considering its other features.

At 13.3", the Dell Vostro 1320 has a screen that’s larger than others in its segment. Besides, Dell gave the interested buyer the choice between a regular LCD or the TrueLife version, which boasts a glossy finish.

With a weight of less than 5 pounds, this laptop is convenient to carry around. If the user’s lifestyle or work requires that the laptop be portable then this fits the bill.

SPECS AVAILABLE OPTIONS

CPU – Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9550 (2.66 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 1066 MHz FSB)

RAM – Up to 8GB6 Dual Channel 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM7

Screen Size – 13.3" Widescreen WXGA (1280 x 800) Anti-Glare Display, 13.3" WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLifeTM

Operating System – Genuine Windows Vista Ultimate, Business, Home Premium, Ultimate with Downgrade Rights Service to Windows XP Professional, and Business with Downgrade Rights Service to Windows XP Professional, FreeDOS operating systems

Battery Life – At least 4 hours

Graphics – Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500MHD, 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS Graphic Card

Pros

The Dell Vostro 1320 offers much comfort to the user. The keyboard’s size is just enough for typing to be done easily. The keys bounce back quickly and are very responsive. The touchpad is also a delight to use because it’s sensitive and has high precision.

What we like most about this laptop is that it doesn’t build up much heat at all. Therefore, you can use it as long as you want without being bothered by the heat and without having to bring along a cooler pad in the bag as well.

Cons

dell notebook laptop computers

Don’t expect that gaming using the Dell Vostro 1320 would be a terrific experience. At most, this laptop can be used for the older games that aren’t as intense with the graphics as the latest ones. This laptop should be left out of the consideration if the user is a hardcore gamer.

We also found a flaw in the speaker setup. We think its designer may have failed to think about the position of the speakers. The speakers are at the bottom rather than on top of the monitor where it should be. This just isn’t ideal when in a videoconference or when viewing movies.

Conclusion

The features of the Dell Vostro 1320 are designed for business and we think that Dell did a good job at fulfilling the requirements. While we think that it should have been given better styling, business people might not like the distraction of having an overly styled laptop. It’s a satisfactory laptop for the price that Dell is selling it for.
