The Basic Function of a Laptop Cooler Unit

The name says it all, laptop cooler. These units are just that, a way to cool your laptop while you are using it. Anyone who owns a laptop will tell you that they can get very warm. This can cause damage to the electronics and shorten the life of the computer itself.

laptop cooler unit

Laptop coolers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from compact ones that just fit a laptop to much larger stationary ones that very much resemble a docking station. With up to four fans built in, these will force cool air in and push warm air away from your computer. While most only need the laptop battery itself for power, this makes it easier to use with no need for an external power source.

These units are constructed mainly from aluminum, which is a natural heat sink in and of itself. This helps draw even more heat away from the laptop. Shaped to fit a normal sized laptop, some of these even fit in your briefcase with it.

Another option is the laptop cooler pad. These pads fit directly under your computer and draw the heat away by a gel that absorbs the heat by direct contact. Requiring no power supply, this is a good option to the coolers that use some of the battery power from the laptop.

The cooler pads are also a great choice because they do not make any noise. Running your laptop during a meeting or on a crowded plane, this cuts down on dirty looks from people close by. These will also fit right in the computer carrying case.

These laptop cooler options both have their advantages, but if your computer generates a lot of heat, a powered one is the right choice. This will move the heat away much faster than the pad style. Cooling your laptop keeps it both efficient and working for a long time.

How Do I Keep My Laptop In Good Condition?

Laptops, regardless of the reason you buy them, are very important, not only because of their monetary value but because of the data that is stored on them. Furthermore, if your laptop stops functioning properly, then the time it spends in the repair shop will be time that you can’t spend doing your work, studying or whatever it was you used the laptop for.

Here are some tips to help you keep your laptop in the best shape possible, year after year:

1. Vent Cleaning: The vents on your laptop need to be looked at every week to make sure there is nothing blocking them or impeding their performance. You can buy a can of air at a local store and use this to clean them out, as it is best not to poke anything in them.

2. Fan Functioning: A malfunction in the fan can lead to your laptop overheating, so make sure that your fan is working properly. Check the website of the company that made the laptop and look for software that will help you determine if the fan is working correctly.

3. Surface: Try and use a hard surface to keep your laptop on, and avoid both your lap and pillows as this will reduce the airflow to the fans and vents, causing the laptop to heat up.

4. Storage: Buy a good quality laptop bag or sleeve and store the laptop in this every time you turn it off. This will stop dust from getting into the laptop, as well as protect it from spills, or bumps. Make sure you only store the laptop when it is completely shut down, as putting it in a bag when it is on could make it overheat.

5. Liquids: Keep all liquids away from your laptop at all times. If you are in the habit of drinking water while working, make sure the bottle is covered at all times. If possible keep the water bottle on a different table to avoid mishaps.

6. Shocks: Make sure the laptop is well protected when you move it around, and always move it gently to avoid jarring it and breaking something.

7. Humidity: Protect your laptop from humidity at all times. It can cause damage to the motherboard and the screen. Don’t use your laptop when at the beach, or outside when the weather is humid.

8. Dust: Always protect your laptop from dust. Keep it away from open windows, 1000 put it in a storage sleeve when not in use, and every week clean the screen and keyboard with a soft cloth to remove dust.

9. Floor: Never put your laptop on the floor for storage, as someone is undoubtedly going to step on it or put something on it, damaging it permanently.

10. Surge Protectors: Always use a surge protector when charging your laptop to protect the battery.

These few tips should keep your laptop in good condition for years to come and enable you to get great performance from it.

So it is very important to keep the laptop in a good working condition. But many users face the problem of an overheated laptop that can ruin the work routine and other plans of a person. To avoid such a situation, the user should know how to fix an overheated laptop. Firstly, the user should always use his laptop on a cool surface and make sure any material is not blocking its case vents. Secondly, the user should make it a habit to keep a nice aerosol air duster to blow off the dust from the case vents in order to let the cool air flow inside the system. Third notable point is that the person using the laptop must regularly clean the cooling fan in the exhaust system inside the cabinet.

An utterly clogged CPU cooling fan is prone to keep the hot air trapped within the system. In this case too, a good quality aerosol air duster should be put into good use for removing the dirt and dust. Moreover, it is advised to use a trusted commercial laptop cooler that is, without any sort of doubt, is going to solve the problem of overheating to a considerable extent. Yet another major point to be taken into account with this regards is that the BIOS settings of the laptop must be adjusted, that automatically moderates the temperature alarms of the CPU, the fan speed and other miscellaneous settings. The guidelines in the manual provided by the laptop manufacturer must be followed to get this work done properly.

If the user patiently follows the above mentioned measures, then he is sure to fix the problems of an overheated laptop.

Laptop Coolers to the Rescue

Over heated laptop? The answer is right here, a laptop cooler. These little units keep not only your laptop cool, but you as well by extending the life of your computer. There is no need to replace it so often, saving you money in the long run.

When a laptop overheats, it can cause damage to some of the delicate electronic parts inside. Just like your car, an overheating can cause permanent damage and affect the way it runs in the future. Using a laptop cooler helps prevent just such a problem from occurring and raises the efficiency of your computer.

There are many styles to choose from to help alleviate this issue. From simple pads that absorb the heat to fan assisted ones that move the heat away, keeping that computer very cool during operation. Depending on where you plan to use your computer, it will help you decide which one is right for you.

The cooler pad is very portable, being not much bigger than the laptop itself. This fits easily in a briefcase or travel bag for business trips. Most of these use a gel that absorbs the heat away from the computer and with no fans, quiet operation in a crowded area is assured.

The larger, fan powered versions are very efficient. These come in a variety of sizes and styles. There are ones small enough to carry with you to desktop models that look like a docking station.

Powered by the laptop battery itself, these carry the warm air and heat away from the computer, forcing cool air into the vents on the laptop body. A USB cable plugs directly into the laptop and it draws its power from there. Either style will work for keeping your laptop cool, the decision is yours.

FIVE Ways to Take Care of Your Laptop Computer

Now that you have your own laptop computer, you will want to know how to keep it safe right? Our laptops, or any kind of computer, are very important to our lives and for many of us, our work. Because these machines are so important to use we want to do everything in our power to make sure they are protected. If something should happen to your laptop there goes everything that you had on it, whether it be pictures of family and friends or business documents – you wouldn’t want to loose any of it. Here are five ways to make sure you keep your laptop safe.

One: You need to make sure your computer stays properly ventilated to keep from overheating. If your laptop overheats it can cause your CPU and other components to fry leaving you without a computer. You should make sure that you never leave your computer sitting on a soft surface while it is on so the vents will always get the air they need to keep your computer cool.

Two: Do not ever drop your computer. We all know that accidents can happen but one drop and your laptop could be a goner. You should make sure that if you are carrying it from one place to another that it is safely in your laptop bag. Make sure that when you set it on a table that it is level and not near the edge. You wouldn’t want someone to walk by and accidentally knock it over.

Three: When you open your laptop make sure that you do not put too much pressure on the screen. You will also want to avoid touching the screen and playing with the liquid inside. LCD screens are very sensitive and can be very easily damaged. You also do not want to clean it with anything but the cleaners that are specifically designed for LCD screens.

Four: Try to keep drinks and foods away from your laptop unless you absolutely need them there. If you have to have a drink or food near your laptop be very careful not to spill anything. Take this from personal experience, one little drop of liquid in the wrong place can be detrimental. Try to keep your liquids on a different surface than your laptop and when you drink make sure that you are not leaning over your laptop.

Five: Make sure you have anti-virus and anti-spyware software on your computer if you use the Internet. This will keep your computer safe from nasty viruses and prying eyes. There are several very good free anti-virus and anti-spyware software on the market but you can also get good software for a decent price.

These are just five of the many ways you can keep your computer safe. Make sure you follow all the precaution as listed above and your computer should be safe. However, as mentioned earlier accidents happen and sometimes we may not be able to control the bad things that can happen to our laptops.

Computer Cooling System: Cooling The System Off

Computer cooling is a process of removing excess heat from the heated parts of the system. Many parts of the computer system produce enormous amount of heat like Integrated Circuits like CPU, chip sets and graphic cards besides the hard drives. There is a need to remove this heat so as the components can keep on working smoothly well within their temperature range of safe work operation. This is done mainly with the help of heat syncs which increase the surface area which dissipates heat, fans to speed up the air exchange between the heated one and the cooler ambient one.

With the advent of the increased heat developed by such electronic components, modern computer systems need proper ventilation system to get eased off from the heated air. A failure to provide adequate ventilation through a modern computer system may increase the chances damage to hard disk or other important components due to overheating. It may also result in damage to the electronics and/or peripheral units.

Heat dissipation in a computer system that typically includes a central processing unit (CPU) is always a significant concern. This is due to the fact that heat is mainly generated during its operation only. Due to this heat generation process from this CPU, the temperature of whole system be it its interior or exterior rises. Because of this, the operation of the CPU may get affected and the operation of other circuits of the personal computer may sometimes become unstable.

The temperature rise in the system may lead to problems in the system. A computer system cooling is typically used to remove thus generated heat from a computer system. There are various known techniques, such as thermal conduction or air-cooling, or the use of a heat pipe, or liquid cooling brought in use to cool off the semi conductor devices of the computer.

Generally, a heat sink with the CPU of a laptop computer is employed to increase the heat-dissipating of its surface area for more effective cooling. Heat sinks are often attached to heat generating electronic components, such as microprocessors. Computer cooling systems have great worth as they silently ensure the smooth functioning of all the parts of the computer system.

Why Should A Pc Be Valeted?

So we’ll start with the Mechanical Element. On every PC, there are air vents and cooling fans. The area within the casing of a computer gets hot, so fans are used to suck cool air into the machine to keep the temperature low. This prevents overheating. However, the problem is this: when the fans breath in cool air, they are also breathing in the dust and paper particles that are all around us – and more so if we work in an office. These particles settle on the fan itself, and other vital components. The dust and dirt build up, and start to clog the fan, reducing its effectiveness and creating noise. This means that vital components – such as the processor – the brain of the PC – are subject to overheating. Not to mention the possibility of the buildup of dust causing components to short out by static electricity. In essence, the procedures in place to protect the PC are slowly destroying it…

We’ll move on to the Human Element – you and me. Right now, you are at your machine, perhaps with one hand on the keyboard and one hand on the mouse. Or perhaps holding a bag of crisps, or an apple if you are healthier! But think of the germs that are currently on your hands. The crumbs that slip between the keys as you type. The apple juice residue that clings to the keys, making them sticky. These become breeding grounds for germs – so much so, that research has proved that there are 400x more germs per square inch on your keyboard than in your toilet bowl. Disgusting! But think about it. How often does your toilet bowl get cleaned? Regularly. How often does your keyboard get cleaned – but not just cleaned – sanitised? Now there’s food for thought. Not to mention the swabs that have been taken from computer keyboards that have shown up hair, skin and nail particles, food remnants and insects! All lurking and rotting half a centimeter below where your fingers are now!

Yes, right now, the PC that you are working at now could be an overheating, germ infested, food riddled machine on the verge of mechanical breakdown!

It is for this reason that CompuClean offers commercial and domestic customers alike the Full System Valet. A comprehensive, all inclusive system ‘makeover’, getting to the root of the problems – completely removing the dirt and dust build-up from within the PC’s casing. Meticulous cleaning of the keyboard – not just on the surface, but underneath too. Comp 1000 lete removal of the greasy fingerprints that mar the screen that you are looking at. And finally, sanitisation of the mouse.

Is this a necessary service? Well, think of that word – service. Do you service your car? Yes. Why? Not because it is broken – no, but to keep it in good working order, and to prevent it from breaking down. The same is true with computer valeting – it’s all about preventative maintenance. Regularly valeting your PC so that it doesn’t break down. You service your car regularly. Why neglect your PC?

Laptop Buying Guide – Part 3

Each brand developed its’ own screen quality technology. Glossy finish, reflection preventing layer, high quality colors, high contrast, LCD backlight system, single lamp, dual lamp backlight or LED backlight system are the features that determine quality between laptop models and brands. Consider laptop screen technologies within your budget limit.

If you are fan of HD films or 3D enhanced games, take my advice and get a laptop with at least 15.4 inches size. Of course 16 inches or bigger screens are better for this kind of use especially ones with 16:9 aspect ratio and wide cinematic screen. Also three colored LED backlight, dual lamp technology or full LED backlight screens provide much more better display quality when compared to traditional normal laptops. You can take advantage of big screens and split them into two different screens to make things easier and faster.

Processor:

When someone says speed about a computer processors come to mind. This is true in a way, but lacking. Because processor affects only process speed, data transfer speed is bound to mainboard, revolutions per minute of hard disk, RAM’s bandwidth frequency and some other factors. Each system affects other ones.

Here are some tips for multi-tasking in laptops and being able to use programs with high speed, meaning high speed in general.

1- GHz next to the processor’s name means its clock speed. You can not determine speed of a processor only with that. For example we have two processors with 2 GHz process clock speed, one has 800 MHz Fsb, and the other’s is 1066 MHz. In this kind of a situation of course 1066 MHz responds quicker. But what are these MHz things?

2- Processors have a data transfer speed between motherboard, most of users don’t know about them. Shown with MHz units, processors have a part named ALU -Arithmetic logic unit- that transfers process results to mainboard. It has something to do with North Bridge on mainboard.

3- Nowadays most of the laptops use multi-cored processors. This is an important point. More than one cored processors allows multi-tasking. These cores data distribution principle changes as core architecture changes. With every new technology core architecture improves and changes. You can find which class of architecture your processors are in by searching through the pr 1000 oducer’s web site.

4- And there is an expression names L2 Cache memory that comes with multi cored processors. Produced in sizes like 2 MB, 4 MB, 6 MB, scales with quality. This memory is independent from RAM. Processor uses this memory to keep results of most used processes. Affects process speed, more space means faster results.

5- Check energy consuming rates of the laptop you are going to buy, be sure cooling system is enough to keep processor cool enough. Nobody wants an overheating laptop.

Reduce Laptop Overheating by Elevation

Naturally, most cooling systems of a laptop are designed with airflow beneath the base of the laptop. In the event the base is too close to the surface it is resting on, the airflow is cut or interrupted causing cooling issues.

Always keep this in mind: never place your laptop on soft surfaces such as on your bed. Notice that whenever you place your laptop on your bed or comforter, your laptop would begin to overheat almost instantly. This is because air cannot pass through the base of the laptop in this case, causing the interruption in air circulation.

Thus, always place your laptop on a hard surface as it was designed to be. If you simply need to place your laptop on your bed, use a large book to support your laptop instead.

Studies have shown that laptops would overheat even when placed on a hard surface, and the most recommended solution by experts is to elevate your laptop. The most economical way would be the use of common household items such as thick books, plastic bottle caps or even erasers.

Look around your home and add in an ounce of creativity in your search for a suitable item to provide some elevation to your laptop.

If you simply hate the sight of plastic bottle caps, there are laptop stands for elevation in the market. Most of these stands even come with attached fans to provide better cooling. Alternatively, it would be wise to invest on a laptop desk if you have some additional cash to spare.

The simplest solution to overheating laptops is to elevate them.

Is Laptop Battery A Bottleneck For Your Performance?

With ever increasing mobility in our daily routine, laptops are the integral part of our professional life.

In such a scenario of much dependence over Laptops, imagine a situation that you are surfing and suddenly your screen flashes a message reading ‘You are running out of Battery’; this period is really frustrating and you start looking for a power outlet.

Every battery comes with a fixed life time but still there are some tech tips that can for sure help you to juice up your laptop’s battery:

1. An intelligent move to increase your battery life is to put off background processes which are not really required when you are on battery. For instance, you can put off iTunes, Desktop Search and other like programs that are really of no importance when you are on battery.

2. Love Hibernation than StandBy modes. People often are habitual of leaving their laptops in StandBy mode rather opting for hibernation. But former is not of any help while battery usage is the question. The StandBy mode drains battery even you are not using the notebook where as Hibernation mode is battery friendly and is not an overhead on the battery.

3. Select the hardware that meets your battery life requirement. Fiddling with background processes or to customize the power-management utilities for better battery life can for sure help you; but at last this is underlying hardware that matters most to the battery back up. So optimize hardware by turning off the ports like VGA, Ethernet, using Device Manager. Also, you can create different profiles for different work environment depending on the accessibility of power outlets. For creating different work profiles, Right Click My Computer -> Hardware Profiles -> Preferences. Managing battery life options via controlling hardware, you can also configure your display to turn off when laptop is not in use.

4. Keep Multimedia activities away from your laptop. Laptops are not the hard core tough performers like to go on with music playing, trying hands on with computer games, or watching a movie. These activities drain the battery life of your laptop.

5. Secure your battery from overheating and overloading. Both overheating and overloading damages the battery by giving it an early death. You can for 1000 instance use a cooling pad while using notebook in lap. Do not place it on the surfaces that can get easily heated up. Keep in remembrance to remove battery when plugging laptop to AC outlet.

6. Dim your screen brightness. To make your battery run longer, customize the display settings to optimal. Educed brightness can save your laptop from running low battery at an early stage when you are not in vicinity of power outlet.

7. Above these tweaks, if you are buying a new laptop that can ensure you longer battery life, there are many configurations that can be looked for. For instance, you can select the laptops that are optimized for longer battery hours like selecting a notebook based on Intel Penryn or other low voltage processor, SSD over HDDs (if cost is no limit), LEDs over LCDs, and you should go for a screen that is not big enough to drain battery and not so small to strain your vision.

These tips are not perfect fixes for battery sulk but yes they can let help battery to accompany you longer.
