Tips For Finding The Best Laptop Cooler

One of the reasons temperature on the inside of your laptop rises to abnormal levels is because of non stop usage. This is especially so if you work in enclosed quarters with insufficient air supply causing the inbuilt laptop fan to be overworked. Placing your laptop on your lap while you work is discouraged because of the amount of heat present there. This act poses a danger to the built-in software of the laptop as well as its functionality. This is why the need for a laptop cooler is urgent; to prevent the worst from happening. The cooler lowers temperatures inside and around the laptop to required standards to prevent loss of information.

laptop coolerThere are many cooling products that are available in the market nowadays. They can be purchased from vendors or directly from the manufacturers. The product has to be compatible with your laptop for it to function properly. There are new coolers that have been introduced into the market that have card readers and memory sticks or key drives. The power connection to the cooler can be external but in most cases it has an inbuilt USB port that allows it to get power from the laptop. An advanced cooler will allow you to use other devices like flash disks on your laptop.

cpu coolersCoolers function in different ways. If the CPU cooling fan isn’t functioning correctly, some coolers are designed to correct this by absorbing heat from the laptop’s underbelly. Others cool temperatures in and around you’re laptop by blowing cooler air towards it instead of absorbing the heat. Some models of the cooler have features to regulate the fan’s speed while others don’t; they function on a fixed speed.

When you are looking for a cooler for your laptop or Notebook Hard Drive, make sure you take these factors into consideration. The price of the cooler will also determine which one you will choose. The features that the product has usually determine the price that the vendor or manufacturer wants to sell it for.

For more information, you can look at online guides and PC magazines that are usually readily available. This gives you a chance to read the product reviews and also compare prizes. Remember to check the compatibility of the cooler before you buy it. With all this information, you will be able to make 1000 an informed decision about the laptop cooler that suits your machine.

laptop coolerFirst off, buying a laptop cooler is one of the best decisions to make if you own a laptop. Unarguably, a laptop is something expensive that we work hard to acquire. And like any investment we make, we want to protect it. So what is one of the best laptop protectors out there? Yes, a laptop cooler. If you bought your laptop for a few hundred dollars or a few thousand dollars, it doesn’t matter. Money will go to waste if you do not invest in your laptop’s well-being.

Not only that, if you use your laptop for business and your hard disk got fried due to overheating then important information stored in that disk is gone! Your transaction records, business receipts and whatever documents you stored will be gone forever and you don’t want that. The same is true with students. Files and projects created for school work will be gone forever if your laptop is lost to overheating.

Though, laptop coolers are mainly for combating heat, it can also be used to ease the strain on your neck and wrists. How? Laptop cooler nowadays can be elevated making the screen rise to eye-level and the keyboard adjusts to a level comfortable for typing.

So you see buying a laptop cooler is truly an investment in your laptop and in your personal health. Making this decision then should not be hard given the ample benefits stated above.

Buy a Cheap Cooling Pad For Laptop

Cooling laptop pad for laptop is an accessory that assists to decreasing their operating heat. It is normally used when the laptop’s fan device is not able to sufficiently cool the laptop, a cooling pad may accommodate active or inactive cooling ways and rests beneath the laptop.

Dynamic coolers move air to direct heat away from the laptop quickly, while the inactive ways may depend on thermally conductive materials or increasing inactive airflow. i.e. inactive cooling method the laptop computer uses unique crystalline compound.

This unique crystalline compound takes in the extra heat away from the laptop and disperses the heat from the laptop.

Although a number of cooling laptop pads support the use of a power adapter, they normally run on power drawn through one of the laptop’s USB ports. Several cooling pads therefore come with a built in USB hub.

Other advanced characteristic include card readers for various forms of media such as key drives, Memory Sticks and 2.5" Laptop hard disk drives.

Some of these "powered" coolers are designed to draw heat from the base of the laptop while others work in the different manner by puffing cool air towards the laptop.

There are several cooling pads on the market that either uses fans to completely cool the laptop or by lifting the laptop up to increase airing. While other Cooling Pad takes a very different approach.

The cooling laptop pad consists of a solid compound crystal. When the laptop is placed on top of the pad, the heat generated from the laptop is absorbed by the pad.

The pad absorbs heat from the laptop, able to lower my laptop’s running temperature. And if you use pad for some hour the part that is touching the laptop gets warm and the gel is not able to absorb any more heat hence the laptop temperature goes back to its original level.

Top 18 Ways to Prolong Your Laptop’s Battery Life

Imagine you are sitting at the airport and you have just enough time to log in and check your email on that cool new laptop. Just as you get to your inbox, the light starts flashing saying you are running out of battery power and wouldn’t you know it, your cord won’t reach the outlet. There are certain steps you can take. The following fifteen tips can help you extend your battery’s life.

1. Defrag your hard drive regularly so it runs as efficiently as possible. Only perform this activity when plugged in, not on battery power. Mac OSX is equipped to better handle fragmentation so Apple users may not need this tip.

2. Dim the monitor. Many laptops have this option available and many include CPU and cooling enhancement enabling you to squeeze every last bit of power from your battery.

3. Reduce the number of programs that are active in the background. You may be running programs such as ITunes, Desktop Search, and so on. These all contribute to your CPU usage which quickly lowers battery life. Shut down everything you don’t need when operating on battery.

4. Limit the use of external devices. This includes all USB devices. Your mouse and Wi-Fi use a lot of battery juice. Simply shut them down or unplug them. And never charge your MP3 or iPod when solely operating on battery power.

5. Increase the RAM. This will allow the laptop to process more information with the memory in the laptop, instead of using the virtual memory. When you use virtual memory, it causes hard drive usage thus reducing power efficiency. This mostly applies to cases where you need to run programs that require a lot of virtual memory usage, since the more RAM you add, the more energy you will use.

6. CD and DVD drives consume more power than hard drives do, so you should run off a hard drive whenever possible. Just having a CD/DVD in the drive can use laptop battery power. While the hard drive spins, it uses battery life although the device is not being used. Instead of using optical programs, you should use virtual drive programs such as Alcohol 120% as much as possible.

7. Keep the battery contacts free of dust and debris. Clean the battery’s metal contacts frequently with a clean cloth with a bit of rubbing alcohol on it and you will maintain power transfer efficiency.

8. Exercise your battery. Do not let charged battery sit idle for an extended amount of time. You should use the battery a minimum of one time every two to three weeks once it is charged. And never allow a Li-On battery to completely discharge. Only older batteries with memory effects should be allowed to discharge.

9. Use the hibernate function instead of standby; this saves a lot more power. Not only will your laptop shut down in the hibernation mode, it will resume right where you left off.

10. Lower the operating temperature – Laptops run much better when the temperature is low. Go to LapTopMag.com for some great ways to clean the vents and other cooling tips.

11. To set up and get the most out of your power options, you should find the "Power Options" link in your Windows Control Panel; once you get there, you can maximize your power usage by selecting the "Max Battery" option.

12. Don’t work on multiple programs. Stick to one task while you are using battery power. Focus on one task at a time, such as finishing a spreadsheet before checking your e-mail or listening to music. Your batteries will be drained before anything gets finished if you don’t!

13. Try to demand the least from your PC. Gaming or playing a DVD consumes much more power than passive activities such as email and word processing. If you only have one battery, prioritize with care.

14. Replace your old laptop with a new model that is more energy friendly. Some manufactures are even offering batteries that last all day. Purchasing a newer more efficient laptop in place of an older one is a quick fix.

15. Prevent the memory effect. If you’re using a very old laptop, you’ll want to prevent the ‘memory effect’ Keep the battery healthy by fully charging and then fully discharging it at least once every two to three weeks. Don’t worry about this if you have Li-Ion batteries, which many laptops have, since they do not have the ‘memory effect’.

Bonus Tip #1: Shut the auto save function off. The auto save feature in MS-Word and Excel is a useful one, but they add to the workload of your hard disk as they keep saving your active files regularly. However as the battery begins to run low, turn it back on to prevent permanent loss.

Bonus Tip #2: Limit the graphics use. Changing the screen resolution and turning off fancy graphic drivers will allow you to do this. According to an update from Andrew, Using a graphics or video card can consume as much or even more energy as a hard disk can.

As said in Bonus Tip #1, you should be careful anytime you turn off the auto save feature. Also, Tip #8 can tell you how to alter information when discharging batteries. Thank you to everybody who pointed this out! An extra bonus second tip can be added to the first tip about the spinning of hard drives in Mac OSX. Thank you to everybody who brought this to light!

Please provide a digital link to this story if you think it is useful, and share your own laptop battery experiences! Let us know in the comments section!

It is imperative that you take care of your laptop and keep it in its best condition so you can take advantage of its full life. It can also help maintain your laptop speed. What follows are a few proven, easy ways to protect and extend the life of your laptop.

1. Keep food and drinks away from your laptop. As much as possible, you should refrain from drinking beverage and eating your meals while working on your laptop. Spilled liquids and fallen food crumbs and bits can easily damage the sensitive circuitry inside.

2. Avoid touching the LCD screen. When shutting it off, be sure to hold it with both hands while closing the lid gently. Screen repairs don’t come in real cheap so you may want to clean your monitor with approved cleaning materials only.

3. Keep it cool by using and keeping it in a well-ventilated area. Laptops generate a lot of heat which can damage the internal circuitry. It is also a wise move to install a laptop cooler or chill mat to reduce the machine’s operating temperature. Laptop coolers come in two designs. Some laptop coolers draw away heat from the laptop’s underside while others blow cool air towards it. They may run through a power adaptor or a USB hub.

4. Use your laptop’s battery. At least once a week unplug it from the wall and let it run on battery power until it tells you to recharge. This will make the battery life lasts much longer.

5. Do not let it run for straight two days, even on powerful laptops. Laptops can get very hot and leaving it on for a longer period of time may cause overheating. It is advisable to install software that automatically puts your laptop in a sleep or hibernate mode or even shut it down after a period of inactivity.

6. If you need to move and take your laptop more than a few feet away, shut it down or put it to sleep before moving on. Do not walk with your laptop on because you are risking the hard drive with every stumble, stump, or jar you make.

7. Don’t close anything inside your laptop. There is a little clearance between the screen and the keyboard and even a couple sheets of paper can put stress onto the screen. Also, avoid putting heavy objects on top of your laptop. These careless actions can damage and break the screen.

8. Get your laptop a carrying bag to reduce the risk of breaks because of laptop being bumped to or dropped accidentally. Moreover, your laptop bag should be big enough to avoid scratching and squeezing to contain the laptop inside the bag.

9. Guard its health by using antivirus software and firewall. Install antivirus and keep it updated from time to time. Your internet-connected laptop is always at risk of being infected with viruses, so you may want to take the necessary precautions. Data loss because of viruses can give you headaches.

Bad Effects on Having Laptop on Your Lap

notebook/laptopNotebook (laptop) is a very efficient and important tool of many people today. Businessmen, college students, housewives and professionals all use laptops for one use or the other. However, it is better that men learn that they risk losing their fertility with the excessive usage of laptop computers.

The main reason men tend to lose their fertility with the excessive use of laptop computers is that the heat that is generated by the computers, and the posture that the man adopts to balance the laptop computer tends to increase the temperature surrounding the scrotum.

Scientific researches have proven that the higher is the scrotal temperature, the higher is the possibility of damaging sperms and affecting the male’s fertility. Moreover, with the advent of Bluetooth and infrared connections, where there are wireless links to the internet, more and more men are using laptops on their laps than on a desk.

Men usually keep their legs open wider than women to keep their testicles at the right temperature, and for added comfort. However, with a laptop on their laps, they tend to adapt a less comfortable position so that they can balance the laptop on their laps. This leads to an increase in body temperature that is found between the thighs.

It has been recently proven that prolonged and continuous usage of laptops on the laps tend to lead to damage to the fertility of the man. This was because the use of laptops usually leads to about 2.7C increase inthe scrotal temperature of the male. This has lead to more and more men having decreased sperm levels where sperm counts seem to have dropped by a third in ten years.

Most of the reasons for this reduced sperm count is drug use, smoking, alcohol and obesity. Besides this, pesticides, radioactive materials and chemicals, and laptops too contribute to decrease in fertility in men.

The human male body has a fixed testicular temperature to maintain usual sperm production and development. Though it is not known the exact time of heat exposure and frequency of exposure to heat that can lead to reversible and irreversible production of sperms, it is known that frequent usage of laptops can lead to irreversible or partially reversible changes in the reproductive system of the male body.

This is why it is advised that young men and teenage boys should limit the use of laptops on their laps to avoid losing their fertility. It is not advisable for young men or boys to also use wireless services on their laps to play games and do other work as they are sure to develop problems in ten years’ time, when trying to have a family.

It is thereby advised that men should use laptops on the desk; in fact, anywhere else is possible, other than using it in the lap. Women don’t have to worry much about laptop computers on their laps, as so far, there have been no studies on the impact of using laptop computers on their laps.

How to Find Laptop Temperature?

Laptops are machines in everyday use. For your laptop to perform well, you must take care of the temperature at which it is made to work. To know about how to find laptop temperature, read on…

How to Find Laptop Temperature?

It’s needless to say that computers have become the essential components of our daily life. A computer is of use in almost every walk of life. Be it working or making online transactions, a computer is all one needs. With increase in the pace of life, mobility became the need of the day. To cope up with the fast paced life of today, man has to race from place to place in search of his needs. He has to be on his toes to be ahead of time and the increase in pace brought along mobility. Today, mobility is also an integral part of a person’s life. The blend of the advancement in technology and a way to cater to the ‘mobile’ needs is best seen in laptops! When such machines become one’s dependency, the person realizes the need to maintain his machines in a working condition. The dependency on machines that man has been having has made him vigilant about taking good care of his machines. This idea applies to laptops too! And why will it not? After all a laptop is just another wonderful machine that many of us use, for a major part of everyday.

Laptop Temperature – A Major Concern
Slow performance, frequent reboots and other symptoms of decline in performance and speed can mean that your laptop is working at an abnormal temperature. The production of heat in the processor is the result of Joule effect, the process of transforming electric energy into heat. An excessive increase in the laptop temperature can damage the internal circuits and hamper the machine’s performance.

Heat can be the cause of sluggishness in the functioning of a laptop. In full-sized machines, a sufficient number of fans are provided. These fans help in the maintenance of an optimal temperature of the CPU. In case of laptops, the scenario is not the same. There is no space for the provision of fans, thus restricting the flow of air to the processor. Users are seldom careful about enabling ventilation for the laptop. Thus monitoring of a laptop temperature becomes a major concern. It is very important to measure, monitor and maintain temperature of a laptop. It’s your laptop and you have to be its caretaker.

How to Find Laptop Temperature?
Mostly, laptops have temperature sensors on the central processing unit and on the hard drive. To find the temperature of your laptop, you need to have an application that reports the laptop temperature, installed on to your machine. There are a number of free applications like ‘MobileMeter’, which are small and handy to use. They are often equipped with provisions for setting the thermal zone, keeping a log file to record the laptop temperatures and specify update timings. These provisions help you select the unit of measurement of the temperature as also keep a record while specifying the frequency with which you want the software to find your laptop temperature. These are software applications, which are easy to install and operate.

If you are really enthusiastic about building the apparatus for measuring your laptop temperature, you can go about building your own probe that can connect to the laptop and help you find its temperature. For this, you will need a temperature sensor and a probe. Connect the appropriate terminals of the probe to those of the sensor. Apply an insulation tape over the terminals. This apparatus can be plugged in to the USB port or the jack of your laptop and believe it or not, your temperature-measuring instrument is ready. This is the temperature-sensing probe that can be used to find your laptop temperature.

After having the needful to find the laptop temperature, it is important to use it as a monitor of the laptop temperature. You need to keep a watchful eye on what factors can lead to a rise in the laptop temperature. Be careful about the placement of the laptop, the things around it and the temperature of the room in which the laptop is housed. Do not let the laptop overheat.

If you are expecting a figure to answer the question about what is the safest maximum temperature a laptop can bear, there is no exact answer. It depends on the specifications of your laptop and the applications it runs at the given moment. For being alert of the undesirable rise in the laptop temperature, you need to understand your laptop. If you expect performance from your machine, you need to know it inside out.

Laptop Cooling Pad – Keep You Laptop Cool

Laptop cooling pads regulate heat emitted by laptops and prevent them from overheating. This way, serious damage on a laptop’s internal components is prevented and battery life is preserved. Laptop cooling pads are made up of fans to dispel heat, as well as vents to direct the heat outwards. To use, they are usually put under laptops and connected through USB ports. However, cooling pads that use a laptop’s power source defeat the purpose of using cooling pads as they put additional power loads to the laptop. Some do come with provisions for an external power source so this problem has been addressed.

Studies show that build up of heat in laptops are reduced by as much as 20 percent when they are placed at an angle as compared to laptops in flat positions. Some cooling pads are made to draw heat away from a laptop from its underside while others function oppositely by blowing air towards the laptop. Cooling pad fans come with adjustable speeds to create different airflow rates based on temperature and can range from 1800 rpm to 2800 rpm.

Laptop cooling pads come in two kinds, fixed and foldable. A fixed laptop cooling pad is a one-piece device that cannot be folded. It is capable of operating very quietly and also consumes less power compared to a foldable laptop cooling pad. A foldable laptop cooling pad on the other hand can be folded for ease in transport and storage. It normally comes with a rubber stand to reduce noise and vibrations. It does tend however to consume so much more power in order to increase fan rotations.

Buying tip

When buying laptop cooling pads, choose those that can be folded into more compact units for easier storage as well as transport. If you intend to take your laptop with you on your long trips, try to look for a cooling pad constructed from lightweight materials.

Tips to Keep Your Laptop Cool in the Summer

As a result of Notebook computer’s limited internal space, it’s cooling system is very different from desktop computers. The quality of cooling is crucial to the stability of it, and since summer is here, this problem can not be ignored. CPU, graphic cards, hard drives, memory, and screen are the heart producing parts in the computers. CPU is the biggest source of heat, which had a direct impact on the temperature of computer. My friends used to joke that she can use her computer’s CPU to fry eggs.

So, there are some good tips for keeping your laptop cool.

1. Keep the environment as cool as possible. Using a Notebook computer in the hot summer, you’d better use your air-conditioning. If there is no air-conditioning, at least use fans. Otherwise, even if the computer withstand, I am afraid you will not.

2. Put something under the computer to allow airflow between the laptop and the desk. It may sound like a small trick, but a very important one. You can put part of a book under it, or you can buy the computer cooling pads which works extremely well considering how cheap they are.

3. When using the in the bed or sofa, try not to block the air outlet of the Notebook computer. There are so many cases that the computer died simply because there is no way to get the hot air out. In summer time, you don’t want to live in a house with all windows closed, neither does your computer.

Summer is always challenging for all the electronics. Use your common sense, and your computer will be as cool as you.
